The NHL will announce its 2014-15 all-stars Saturday night for the skills competition and game in Columbus Jan. Tom Rathman Super Bowl Jersey . 24-25. Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford, defencemen Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook and forwards Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane and Buffalo Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons have already been voted in by fans. With the caveat that every team must be represented, heres a projection of the remaining five goaltenders, 10 defencemen and 21 forwards who will be named as all-stars:GOALTENDERSPekka Rinne, Nashville PredatorsCarey Price, Montreal CanadiensRoberto Luongo, Florida PanthersSergei Bobrovsky, Columbus Blue JacketsSemyon Varlamov, Colorado AvalancheDEFENCEMENP.K. But Paul Osbaldiston, Hamiltons assistant special teams and kicking coach, said the team still relished the championship game workout. Nick Bosa Super Bowl Jersey . INJURIES - Cardinals 1B Matt Adams has been put on the DL with calf tightness, resulting in some lineup shifting, with Allen Craig moving from right field to first base, so that the Cardinals could bring up top prospect Oscar Taveras, who was the No.RENTON, Wash. -- John Schneider understands the entertainment and excitement when it comes to the first round of the NFL draft. Its what transpires in those later rounds on the final two days that has separated the Seattle Seahawks from the pack since Schneider and coach Pete Carroll took over in 2010. "I think the first round is a beautiful thing because its so exciting and everybody is really into it. Its entertainment. I get it," Schneider said. "But its all about the work that all the scouts put in throughout the fall, all the way through the draft and into rookie free agency." Schneider and the Seahawks hold the No. 32 pick in the first round, but its the paltry amount of selections that follow for Seattle that stands out with the draft approaching. The Seahawks hold only six picks heading into Thursday night, and it would be the fewest selections by Seattle since 2006 if that number holds. Schneider and Carroll have made no fewer than nine picks in any of their previous drafts in charge and ended up making 11 selections last year. The measly number of picks -- at least in terms of Seattles recent history -- has raised speculation Schneider could be looking to move out of the last spot in the first round so he could acquire more selections on Days 2 and 3. Schneider said even if the Seahawks hold their six picks, it hasnt changed their approach to the draft. "Its just a matter of how it starts coming off," Schneider said. "This year is going to be really unique because of the quarterbacks and how they come off. There are some really talented quarterbacks that should go really high in the draft." Here are five things to watch as the Seahawks draft as NFL champions for the first time: FIFTH-ROUND FINDS: While Seattle has pulled some gems from the middle rounds, something about the fifth round has proved extremely fruitful for the Seahawks. In 2010, Seattle landed strong safety Kam Chancellor. A year later, it was All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman falling to Seattle in Round 5. And last year, Seattle found value in tight end Luke Willson in the fifth round; he went on to catch 20 passes. No surprise, Seattlle has a pair of fifth-round picks. Mitch Wishnowsky Super Bowl Jersey. "I think coach Carroll and his staff have that natural, they played with young players at USC. Theyre used to it. They dont have a preconceived notion that you need a veteran," Schneider said. "The easiest thing to do is sign a veteran. The toughest thing to do is sign a young player and coach them up and spend extra time with them and develop them and get them ready to play. And this staff has shown an ability to do that year in and year out." LINE GAPS: Seattle will need to fill at least two offensive line spots after right tackle Breno Giacomini and left guard Paul McQuistan left in free agency. Michael Bowie, a seventh-round pick last year, will likely get the first shot at right tackle, but filling the guard spot could come from the draft. The likes of guard Xavier Sua-Filo from UCLA or tackle Morgan Moses from Virginia could possibly be options for Seattle late in the first round. BIG TARGET: Everyone loves big wide receivers, especially Carroll. They were a staple of his offences at USC and Seattle has tried to emulate that first with Mike Williams and then Sidney Rice since Carroll arrived. Rice, who has been injury-plagued since signing with Seattle, is returning, but the Seahawks could use another receiving option with Golden Tate going to Detroit in the off-season. RUN STUFFER: Seattle let go of Red Bryant and Chris Clemons and saw Clinton McDonald sign elsewhere, leaving depth questions on the defensive line. The Seahawks believe Greg Scruggs and Jesse Williams, both injured last season, will be able to help fill the voids. But look for Seattle to try and add depth up front after seeing the benefits of having a rotation last season. THE SURPRISE WILL BE ... Aside from their success in the later rounds, the Seahawks have pulled a few surprises in the draft, especially with their early picks. Whether it was taking Bruce Irvin in the middle of the first round or the decision to draft Russell Wilson after signing Matt Flynn as a free agent, Schneiders group is good for at least one eyebrow-raising selection. Patrick Chan opened his season by winning the mens short program at Skate Canada International on Friday night. Phil Rizzuto Jersey . The three-time world champion from Toronto scored 88.10 points, but tripled his quad toe loop attempt and couldnt hold the landing on his second triple toe loop. Rather than dwell on his missed quad, Chan took a similarly philosophical approach to his skate as his Canadian ice dance teammates. "I didnt have technical goals, I didnt say I want to land my quad then my Axel so I can come first," Chan said. "I wanted to go out and be excited to be there as opposed to dreading competing, which had become a bad habit of mine over the last two seasons. I was kind of dreading competing and never really enjoying competing, which is really weird as an elite athlete. "I went into this event thinking, Hey, Im lucky to be here, Im lucky to be at the level I am, Ive won three world championships, Ive got nothing to prove, Im out here to have a great time." Nobunari Oda was second with 80.82, while Japanese teammate Yuzuru Hanyu was third with 80.40. Skate Canada is the second of six stops on figure skatings Grand Prix circuit. The top six entries in each discipline qualify for the Grand Prix Final, Dec. 5-8, in Fukuoka, Japan. Jonathan Holder Jersey . - After three days of light, make that very light, workouts, Team Irvin and Team Carter are ready for tonights Pro Bowl. Paul ONeill Jersey . Lisicki beat South African Chanelle Scheepers by a 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) margin. Next up for the Wimbledon runner-up will be Slovenian Polona Hercog, who outlasted Czech Petra Cetkovska 6-4, 5-7, 6-1. CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The defending National League champions opened the season with a lot of waiting. And a couple of wins, too. The St. Louis Cardinals overcame another long delay and Todd Fraziers two homers on Thursday, holding on to beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-6 and take two of three in their season-opening series. The first pitch was delayed 3 hours, 42 minutes because of rain. Some of the Cardinals spent their down time by studying Cincinnatis pitchers again and getting a little extra work in the indoor batting cages. "Its tough to stay mentally into it," said Matt Adams, who had a single and a pair of doubles. "Thats what we had to do to make sure we could go out there and perform. Were watching video and taking swings in the cage and stretching and making sure were ready to go." Finally on the field, the Cardinals emerged from their two-game hitting slump by knocking Homer Bailey (0-1) out of the game in the fifth inning. Jhonny Peralta homered to get it going. It wasnt perfect -- St. Louis stranded eight runners -- but it was much better. "We had a lot of opportunities that we missed, too," manager Mike Matheny said. "We had a lot of guys in scoring position." St. Louis pulled away with three runs in the seventh, when Matt Hollidays single off the top of the outfield wall was upheld by the only video review of the series, this one initiated by the umpires. Lance Lynn (1-0) gave up Jay Bruces two-run homer and Fraziers solo shot during five innings. Frazier added a three-run homer in the seventh that cut it to 7-6. Trevor Rosenthal got the last four outs for his second save. The series involved nearly as much waiting as playing. There was a 2-hour, 40-minute delay before Wednesdays game, a 1-0 victory by Cincinnati. Along with the delay on Thursday, the teams wound up waiting 6 hours, 22 minutes to play during the two days. As Thursdays delay stretched on, Reds reliever Sam LeCure tweeted: "Uncle." "The whole series was kind of weird with all the rain and stuff," Frazier said. "It really put a damperr on things. DJ LeMahieu Jersey. " The starters had a rough time after the delay. Lynn beat the Reds three times last season, but couldnt get a 1-2-3 inning on Thursday. Bruce and Frazier hit back-to-back homers in the first for a 3-0 lead. Even Bailey had a single off Lynn, who gave up eight hits while throwing 107 pitches. Peralta hit a two-run homer in the second off Bailey, and the Cardinals tied it with a breakthrough hit in the fourth. Adams doubled and came around on Jon Jays double, the Cardinals first hit with a runner in scoring position this season. They had been 0 for 17. Jays hit also extended his hitting streak to 15 games, including the end of last season. Hollidays first hit of the season, an RBI double, put the Cardinals up 4-3 in the fifth. Bailey lasted only 4 1-3 innings, giving up seven hits, three walks and four runs. The Cardinals added three in the seventh, when they loaded the bases on a pair of walks and Hollidays single off the top of the wall. The ball went over Billy Hamiltons glove and deflected to Bruce, who caught the ball. The umpires correctly ruled that it a hit off the top of the wall, and a 2-minute, 8-second review initiated by the umps upheld the call. They wanted to make sure the ball hadnt cleared the wall. Allen Craig and Yadier Molina followed with RBI singles as St. Louis pulled ahead 7-3. NOTES: The game ended 7 hours, 23 minutes after it was originally scheduled to start. ... Shelby Miller starts for the Cardinals in Pittsburgh on Friday against Gerrit Cole. Mike Leake goes for the Reds in New York against the Mets Jenrry Mejia. ... Adams dived into the stands trying to catch a foul ball, and pushed a fan who reached up and caught it before he could get it. "I was trying to stop myself from going into the stands," Adams said. "People came up to me and said I shoved him. I didnt even know. Im not that type of guy to go after anybody." ... It was Fraziers fourth career multihomer game. ... Hamilton walked in the eighth inning, reaching base for the first time this season. He is 0 for 12 with six strikeouts. ' ' '
LAKE FOREST, Ill. Davante Adams Super Bowl Jersey . - Lance Briggs figures his time with the Chicago Bears is coming to an end. Hes not sure if his career is, too. A week shy of 34 and with his contract set to expire, Briggs acknowledged his 12-year run with the Bears will likely end this season. Its the last year of my deal, he said. Its not like Im going to magically show up after this year and theyre going to open the gates up for you. Ive talked to my buddy (former Bear) Alex Brown — those gates are closing — youre a free agent. I know the reality of it and Im proud of all the years Ive had here. Its been great. I couldnt have asked for a better situation. If hes not back with the Bears, will he play for another team? I dont know, he said — four times. Briggs realizes it might not be his choice. Somebodys got to want you first and then you go from there, he said. The seven-time Pro Bowl linebacker expects to return against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers this week after missing the past three games with a rib injury. The Bears are 3-5 and trying to remain in playoff contention after dropping four of five before their bye. No matter what happens the rest of the way, changes could be in store. An offence that ranked among the best in club history in its first season under coach Marc Trestman last year is underachieving, even though all its starters returned. A rebuilt defence isnt performing, and a season that began with high hopes appears to be slipping away. The past two games have been particularly ugly, with receiver Brandon Marshall overheard yelling in the locker room after a loss at home to Miami, and Tom Brady then shredding Chicago in a rout at New England. But its not like the defence was performing the way the Bears envisioned before the Patriots game. Whether its poor execution or poor strategy, its been a struggle all season for Chicago. Poor health hasnt helped, either. The Bears lost defensive end Lamarr Houston to a season-ending knee injury sustained while celebrating a late sack against a backup quarterback in the closing minutes against New England. That was just the latest blow for a team that lost cornerback Charles Tillman to a torn right triceps in September and has been forced to get by at times without other key players. Rib and shoulder injuries have kept Briggs out of 10 games the past two seasons after he missed only four in his first 10 years. The time off hasnt been easy for him. Shoot, I dont know what to do with myself sometimes, he said. Sometimes, I sit in meetings while coaches are talking and sometimes the words kind of just faze out and Im staring at the screen. The only thing I can tell is the time, and Ill look up at the screen and be like, Dang, still got 55 minutes left. Its just been different man, just different. More coaching. But he intends to be in the lineup this week, trying to contain Rodgers. Thats something the Bears were unable to do in late September at Soldier Field. Green Bay scored on its first six possessions and intercepted Jay Cutler twice in the third quarter to pull away for a 38-17 victory. This time, Briggs could be making his final trip to Lambeau Field. I understand this is probably my last year as a Chicago Bear, and this could be the last time I play the Packers, Briggs said. But for me ... I really do enjoy my teammates, and its been unfortunate to watch from the sidelines because I want to see them find success, you know, and any Bear making a play is always a good thing. NOTE: WR Marquess Wilson practiced Wednesday for the first time since he broke his collarbone on Aug. 24, starting the clock on a 21-day window to add him to the active roster. Trestman would not say if Wilson will play this week. Were just going to go one day at a time on this and make sure that hes in the physical kind of condition he needs to be in, Trestman said. Billy Turner Super Bowl Jersey . Both sides came closest to scoring in the first half, when Roma had a goal from Mattia Destro waved off for offside and Inters Rodrigo Palacio headed high. "A draw was a fair result. Neither squad had many chances," Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic said. Blake Martinez Super Bowl Jersey . "Win basketball games," Collins said. He will get at least a few more chances. Collins played the final minutes of a winning home debut with the Brooklyn Nets, who cooled off the Chicago Bulls with a 96-80 victory Monday night.CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Joey Logano was pushed into the Sprint Cup Series as a fresh-faced, budding superstar barely old enough to drive at NASCARs national level. When Joe Gibbs Racing chose him to replace Tony Stewart in 2009, Logano moved quickly into one of NASCARs top rides with out-of-whack expectations built by glowing recommendations from veteran drivers. It was quickly apparent that Logano would need years to properly fill Stewarts seat at JGR, and the organization had to make a change after four seasons and just two victories. Roger Penske was fast to grab Logano, who has blossomed into the driver many thought hed be when he turned 18 in 2008 and finally became eligible to race at NASCARs top level.Loganos win Sunday at Kansas Speedway was his career-best fifth of the season and earned him an automatic berth into the third round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. After the victory, Penske thanked Joe and J.D. Gibbs for giving Logano four years of seat time and breaking him in.Probably have to send (JGR) a check, Penske joked.Logano heads into Saturday nights race at Charlotte Motor Speedway at the top of the Chase rankings and confident hes a legitimate title contender with his No. 22 Team Penske crew. Its a spot Greg Zipadelli always believed Logano could reach.Zipadelli was Stewarts crew chief at JGR and spent three seasons atop the pit box with Logano before Zipadelli moved into a management role at Stewart-Haas Racing. We asked him to do something he probably wasnt ready to do, Zipadelli said. He did the best he could at the time, and I think he got beat up over it.Logano left JGR with 41 top-10 finishes in 144 starts in the No. 20. He also won five poles, but never earned a spot in the Chase. In his first season with Penske last year, he had career-highs in top-fives, top-10s, laps led and made the Chase.I think the change was good for him. He went to a group that was excited about having hhim a€” not that Gibbs wasnt, but they made different choices, Zipadelli said. Tony Brown Super Bowl Jersey. We pushed him pretty early. There was never a day I didnt think that kid had talent.___MASON MITCHELL: Mason Mitchell started last winter unsure of his 2014 racing plans and took a gamble leaving his home in Iowa to move to North Carolina to start his own team. The move paid huge dividends as his Mason Mitchell Motorsports team last weekend won the ARCA Racing Series championship. Its unbelievable, Mitchell said. I know there were not too many believers earlier in the year, but we showed them what we were about. I learned so much about myself, living at the race shop and being dedicated. Its just pretty incredible. It takes a lot just to get to the race track.Mitchell finished the season with one win, six second-place finishes and 12 top-five finishes. He also won five poles and his 18 top-10 finishes led all ARCA drivers.Mitchell was solid on every type of track ARCA visited: In two dirt track races, he finished second and fourth. He was 10th on the road course in New Jersey. In nine short track races, he led 449 laps and had seven top-10 finishes.Youre not supposed to do this the first time, Mitchell said. I figured wed be competitive by the end of the race season, but not all year. We never really had a bad day at the race track.___INDYCAR-ENGINE DEVELOPMENT: IndyCar has named Marvin Riley the director of engine development. He will work in developing the rules and performance standards for IndyCar Series engine manufacturers Chevrolet and Honda.Riley, who holds a mechanical engineering degree from Michigan and a business masters from UCLA, has worked the last 10 years as a member of Honda Performance Development. He most recently served as assistant manager of HPDs engine development department, where he was responsible for the execution of all major engine performance specifications and test plans. ' ' '
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. China Jerseys Wholesale . -- The NFL suspended Jim Irsay for the first six games of the season and fined him $500,000 for violating its personal conduct policy, coming down hard on the Indianapolis Colts owner Tuesday just hours after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour stemming from an embarrassing March traffic stop. Commissioner Roger Goodell said Irsay is barred from team facilities, practices and games and cannot represent the Colts at NFL meetings or events. The fine is the maximum allowed under league rules. "I have stated on numerous occasions that owners, management personnel and coaches must be held to a higher standard than players," Goodell told Irsay in a letter released by the NFL. "We discussed this during our meeting and you expressed your support for that view, volunteering that owners should be held to the highest standard." The 55-year-old Irsay pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour count of driving while intoxicated and acknowledged during his appearance before a Hamilton County judge that he was under the influence of the painkillers oxycodone and hydrocodone when he was arrested March 16 near his home in the Indianapolis suburb of Carmel. Irsay did not comment outside the courtroom, but he apologized to Colts fans in a prepared statement. "I am committed to do everything in my power to turn this whole experience into a positive event for myself, my family and the community," he said. "In retrospect, I now know that the incident opened my eyes to issues in my life that needed addressing and helped put me on the path to regain my health. I truly hope and pray that my episode will help in some small measure to diminish the stigma surrounding our countrys terrible and deadly problem of addiction. It is a disease." Irsays case was closely watched around the NFL -- not least among players -- because there are few examples of the league punishing an owner like Irsay. Detroit Lions president Tom Lewand was suspended for 30 days and fined $100,000 in 2010 for violating the NFLs personal conduct policy following his guilty plea to driving while impaired. A player with a first-offencemisdemeanour DUI would not be suspended and would be fined no more than $50,000 under terms of the collective bargaining agreement with the NFL Players Association. Police said an officer spotted Irsay driving slowly, stopping in the roadway and failing to use a turn signal. Officers said he had trouble reciting the alphabet and failed field sobriety tests. Various prescription drugs were found in his vehicle, along with more than $29,000 in cash. Irsay acknowledged in 2002 that he had become dependent on painkillers after several years of orthopedic operations but said he had overcome the problem. Irsay will be on probation for a year and is prohibited from drinking or possessing alcohol during that time. He must submit to drug testing during his probation and successfully complete a substance abuse rehabilitation program. Less than 48 hours after his arrest, the Colts said Irsay had entered a treatment facility. Irsays drivers license also was suspended for one year by Judge J. Richard Campbell, who asked Irsay about his history of prescription drug troubles. "Yes, Ive had it in the past ... when I was dealing with the effects after having surgery," Irsay answered. Andre Miksha, the Hamilton County chief deputy prosecutor, said Irsays case wasnt handled differently than the roughly 1,100 other intoxicated driving cases the office handles each year. He said the "vast majority" of such cases end in plea agreements. He also said the terms of Irsays plea agreement are typical for a person who faced first-time driving while intoxicated charges in the county just north of Indianapolis. Irsay had resumed his duties with the Colts at the NFL draft in May and even made an unsuccessful personal pitch to his fellow owners on behalf of Indianapolis bid to host the 2018 Super Bowl. Irsay became the Colts owner in 1997 after the death of his father, Robert Irsay, and a lengthy legal battle with his fathers second wife. Forbes magazine has estimated Irsays net worth at $1.6 billion. He has helped build the Colts into a top NFL team over the past decade behind quarterback Peyton Manning, now with Denver, and was a key player in the drive to bring the Super Bowl to Indianapolis two years ago. He is working with some success to rebuild the team behind young quarterback Andrew Luck while coping with a divorce that follows a decade-long separation from his wife of 33 years. Irsay told the judge he is still under the care of a doctor and an orthopedic specialist who prescribe medications for him. Under terms of his probation, Irsay must provide officials with all current medication prescriptions. The NFL said Irsay will be subject to ongoing treatment, counselling and testing as determined by doctors. Irsay, who is active on social media, is also forbidden from discussing the Colts or NFL on his Twitter account. Tom Greene Jersey Store . - A mixed martial arts fighter who changed his name to War Machine was ordered Friday to stand trial in Nevada state court on 34 felony charges including attempted murder, sexual assault and kidnapping that could get him life in prison for allegedly attacking his porn star ex-girlfriend and her friend. Emanuel King Jersey Store . Pospisil, from Vancouver, and Sock will compete for the title against defending champions and top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan of the United States, who defeated the 12th-seeded French duo of Michael Llodra and Nicolas Mahut 7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-2.Finally, the East regained a sense of respect with three teams winning and the Redblacks playing truly competitive football. I still feel one 9-division league would be an interesting experiment for a year but having the East beat the majority of the West was fun to watch. This week, there is only one East/West game with Hamilton playing in Winnipeg on Saturday. Although Toronto, Hamilton and Montreal all have four wins, all three teams seems to have turned a corner in football efficiency for various reasons. With the Argonauts, having Andre Durie and Chad Owens back makes a major difference to that team. Scoring 40 points is the first indicator and Owens having eight catches for 117 with a touchdown being the second. Owens is a remarkable athlete and player. His absence of hesitation and fear may be more than anyone has in his position, but he must stay healthy. A healthy Chad Owens gives the Argonauts as good a shot as any to win the East and earn a homefield playoff game. I thought one of the good stories was Steve Slaton at running back; a nice contribution with 52 yards rushing and 27 yards receiving but remember, it was Steve Slaton that was kicked out of the Calgary game because of an unnecessary roughness penalty that put his offence in a first and 25. All can be forgiven in a week and with Slatons productive contribution, you figure its time to move on. For BC, this was a tough loss for a 7-5 team that now has to go back into Calgary this week and play a 10-2 team also coming off a loss with Jon Cornish back in the lineup. Major challenge. In Hamilton, there should be optimism of genuine quality for the Ticats as we begin the last week of September football and see 0ctober on the horizon. Zach Collaros is in a grove and is now living up to the investment made many months ago. Mobile and confident, he had to take the game over due to the injury to CJ Gable and did with 318 yards passing against a good Edmonton defence. Could you imagine how the offence will hum with both Brandon Banks and OJ McDuffie back? Not sure what Eric Norwood had for his pre-game meal but whatever it was, Eric, eat it again. Seven tackles and four quarterback sacks is a special performance and, with Justin Hickman back with the team, Norwood made a statement of employment security by the end of the game. With Edmonton, 0dell Williss was dominant as the Eskimos are only one game behind Saskatchewan and that is who they play this week at home. Walt Schupp Jersey Store. As the games roll on, all you can ask for is to control your playoff chances. Both Edmonton and Saskatchewan can do that. Friday night at Commonwealth will be a good game. Montreal beat the best team in the league, the Stampeders. It was a great day for Jonathan Crompton as he had a breakout game. In his fourth start, he played well and took significant steps forward. Quarterbacks coach Jeff Garcia, offensive coordinator Ryan Dinwiddie and Crompton could be a future trio of stability. Yes, I know thats a little bit too optimistic but I enjoy seeing players play well much more than I enjoy seeing them fail. Good job Johnathan Crompton. What happened to Calgary was confusing but also confusing was why Jon Cornish didnt play. I do know what a maintenance day is but it would have been nice to know what specifics needed to be maintained. Calgary has not clinched the West yet and need to as they are tough to beat at home. Drew Tate was 15 of 30 for 152 yards which is nothing to get excited about but it was his first start in a long, long time and he can start in this league. The surprise performer for me? Matt Walter, who had 88 yards rushing on 13 carriers for a good contribution in a losing effort. Saskatchewan 35, Ottawa 32 -- where do I begin? Well, just like Steve Slaton, well done Tino Sanseri, who was 9 for 22 against Hamilton the previous week, but 20 of 32 this week. He only had 29 yards passing in the first half but responded with 231 yards in the second; Good game for a guy under a lot of pressure all week. If you did not see Corey Chamblins halftime comments, it is worth searching. It was honest, to the point and direct. Often, coaches and players realize that some of the media obligations are perceived as a necessary evil but not this one. It came from the heart and was an energizer for all who saw it. Well done. Ottawa, Ottawa, Ottawa. They were ready to play and head coach Rick Campbell took many a risk to try to win. They are 1-10 but a better team now than they were at the start of the season. It is a massive, calculated progression to create a winning organization and I do believe Ottawa is heading in the right direction. Best game of the year. ' ' '
The Green Bay Packers may not be without starting right tackle Bryan Bulaga for long after the right tackle suffered an MCL injury in Thursdays loss to the Seattle Seahawks. JK Scott Super Bowl Jersey . Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said Friday that Bulaga hopes to practice on Wednesday with the Packers as the team prepares to face the New York Jets in Week 2.  Bulaga left in the second quarter of the loss and the Packers announced early in the second half that he would not return. Green Bay was already playing without centre J.C. Tretter and had rookie Corey Linsley starting in his first NFL game. Bulaga was injured early in the second quarter on Eddie Lacys 3-yard run. Bulaga was down on the field for several minutes before limping to the sideline, where his left knee was examined. He later was taken to the locker room. Derek Sherrod was called on to replace Bulaga and struggled mightily. Sherrod allowed two sacks, including one that resulted in a safety, on consecutive drives. Bulaga missed the entire 2013 season with a torn ACL in his left knee. McCarthy also noted Lacy has passed the first stage of the NFLs concussion protocol after suffering a concussion against the Seahawks. Dexter Williams Super Bowl Jersey .com) - The Calgary Flames were again involved in a game in which a team was held scoreless, only this time they came out on the winning side. Dean Lowry Super Bowl Jersey .C., has been named Canadas top female official, winning the 2014 SOC Award of Excellence. Cranes career as a figure skating judge has spanned over 40 years. For Vancouvers third game in eight days, Robinson kept the diamond in midfield but rung the changes, some forced and others out of choice. Steven Beitashour was on the trip but failed a late fitness test and was replaced by Ethen Sampson, who made only his second MLS start. Fellow 20-year-old Christian Dean joined him in the back four, with veteran Andy OBrien left at home. Pedro Morales was not 100 per cent so was left on the bench, leaving Mauro Rosales to occupy the playmaking number ten role as Mehdi Ballouchy came in on the right to help Sampson defensively. Darren Mattocks returned up top alongside Sebastian Fernandez. Dallas boss Oscar Pareja abandoned his back three experiment from the loss last week against Real Salt Lake, choosing a straight 4-4-2 featuring an explosive front four that surprisingly included Blas Perez, back from international duty with Panama. The Game Dallas won 2-1 in a match that was decided on moments and key decisions. It can be a cruel game sometimes and a steep learning curve for a young side like Vancouver. Robinson will have had a difficult time post match with what to say to his players, an all too familiar story for the Whitecaps lately. Dallas opened the scoring after 20 minutes from a freak wondergoal by Perez. Defender Jordan Harveys reaction said it all. The experienced left back, who had 168 of the combined 172 MLS starts for the defence heading in, just waved his hand towards the net as a signal for how ridiculous the goal was. For Vancouver it was a kick in the guts. A team that has struggled so much to find ways to score did not need to see first hand clear evidence of how easy sometimes a ball can go in from nothing. In truth, the Whitecaps should have already been ahead when Darren Mattocks was played in alone at the other end but once again took too many touches and wasnt able to finish. Another familiar story. The Whitecaps, led by the brilliant Rosales, grew back into the game and deserved their equaliser, scored by Erik Hurtado who had replaced the ineffective Mattocks. It was a goal orchestrated by Rosales and one that highlighted the weaknesses of the hosts. Central midfielders Michel and Victor Ulloa struggled throughout with their collective defensively responsibilities, allowing Rosales to run the show in behind them. On the goal he broke into that space again, while Hurtado made an intelligent run in the channels between Zach Loyd and Jair Benitez at left back who had come on for Moises Hernandez. Hurtados run was good but his finish was even better. Dallas was a threat in the final third when they got there but struggled throughout the game in keeping possession, an issue they havent solved all season. However, that is their identity now, a team so dangerous from set pieces and once their quick, explosive wingers get the ball in the final third. Their winning goal, not surprisingly, came from a set piece with Michel sending a ball into the box that the Whitecaps didnt deal with, allowing, on the second phase, Perez to place the ball into an empty net after David Ousted came off his line and didnt get the ball. It capped off a mixed night for the Danish keeper who made two magnificent saves to keep his team in the game between each of the goals he conceded. The Positives Vancouver is a team who has no legitimate goalscorer. Jimmy Graham Super Bowl Jersey. . Their best player isnt fit and was a shadow of his former self when he came on. They had three centre-backs, who have all started big games for them over recent weeks, unavailable, while key pieces in Beitashour and Gershon Koffie were injured. Yet, they still went toe-to-toe with a team that will qualify for the playoffs in a very competitive Western Conference. Some Whitecaps fans dont want to hear that this season is a year of transition for this franchise but that is a reality as a new boss tries to bring in his own players and deal with the challenges left behind by the former coach. If Vancouver wants to be a consistent challenger for a playoff spot it is about building a strong spine and that showed some great signs of improvement on a cloudy night in Frisco. Ousted is a rock in goal and is allowed a mistake, one that haunted him as he was still talking at length about it later that night at the hotel. Kendall Waston had another excellent game and his inexperienced partner, Dean, grew into the game. He will have less severe tests than ones given to him by Castillo and Perez on his debut. Matias Laba had another outstanding game and completely ran the central midfield. His workrate showed Dallas exactly what they miss as they look a broken team who struggle to get midfielders in the game to combine with the front four. Ahead of Laba, Rosales was the best player for the Whitecaps and the only thing missing to complete a strong spine is a pure finisher, although Hurtados goal will give him a lot of confidence and may earn him a start next week in Portland. The Weaknesses It is a broken record by now. If Mattocks scores his chance inside the first fifteen minutes it is a different game. Too often when balls were played to the feet of the front two they didnt stick. Zach Loyd and Matt Hedges put on a centre-back clinic on how to press, be aggressive and take the forwards out of the game. The longer the game wore on the more intimidated they were by them with only Fernandez looking a threat when he gets space to dribble into. A new striker is needed and will arrive for 2015 and with him needs to come a natural winger who can push opposing full backs deep and attack the white line just to give Robinson another option and make sure their attacks are not too narrow and predictable. Star Man Rosales was a magician. No one works harder, no one reads the game better and he isnt afraid to tell team-mates that also, educating them on their choices and helping them be better. With Morales struggling, we have yet to see the best of these two playmakers together and it was wise that when the Chilean did come on Robinson kept Rosales in the central role were he tortured the Dallas midfield. He, like Waston at the other end, has become an on-field leader already and one the team cannot afford to be without. Both players are examples of Robinsons Whitecaps that need to be at the club next season to help take them to the next level. Right now, though, the immediate goal is the playoffs and despite all the adversity the team is still in fifth spot with six games remaining. That in itself is a huge sign of progression for this franchise no matter when the curtain comes down on their 2014 campaign. ' ' '
CHICAGO -- The individual accomplishments are all well and good to Kevin Durant. Dave Pacella Jersey Store . This means more. The Thunder shook off their worst loss, then stood their ground when the Bulls came charging at them. Durant finished with 35 points and 12 rebounds, and Oklahoma City beat Chicago 97-85 on Monday night. Russell Westbrook added 17 points after sitting out the previous day to rest his surgically repaired knee, and the Thunder rebounded from their most lopsided loss of the season. They went on a 13-point run after the Bulls scored eight straight early in the fourth to cut the lead to one and pulled this one out after falling by 23 at home to Dallas on Sunday. Durant ran his streak of games with 25 or more points to 32, the longest in the NBA since Michael Jordan did it in 40 in a row during the 1986-87 season. He also chipped in with five assists. "I just go out there and ... play to win," Durant said. "If all that stuff comes with it, then thats cool." Whats most impressive about the streak is the sheer consistency, the lack of a true off game. That and the fact Durant just shrugs it off stand out most to coach Scott Brooks. "I know when I had a three-game streak of four, I was worried about that fourth game," Brooks said. "I had to make my first shot. Hes not worried about it. Hes worried about playing hard and playing the correct way and finding ways to help his team win. Thats what hes done. Hes an amazing leader and hes so consistent." Westbrook had nine rebounds and nine assists, although he did struggle from the field. He was 5 of 14, and the Thunder shot 41.3 per cent overall. They had the touch from long range, hitting 13 of 25 3-pointers -- three each by Durant, Westbrook and Caron Butler. The Bulls never found their rhythm, shooting 34.5 per cent overall, and settled for a six-game split on a tough homestand that included wins over defending champion Miami and Houston. "I would have liked it better if we won a couple more games, but 3-3 well take it," Joakim Noah said. "Weve just got to move forward. I wish we could have this game back." Noah, whos been hearing "MVP!" chants lately, had a rather quiet night, although he just missed his fourth triple-double of the season. He shot just 2 of 8 but finished with nine points, 12 rebounds and nine assists. Taj Gibson had 16 points and seven rebounds. Jimmy Butler scored 13, and Carlos Boozer chipped in with 12 points and 11 rebounds, but the Bulls came up short. The Thunder were leading by nine early in the fourth when the Bulls scored eight straight points, Butlers fastbreak dunk putting a charge in the crowd and back-to-back baskets by Gibson cutting it to 76-75 with about 10 minutes remaining. After that, things turned in a big way. The Bulls missed their next 11 shots, and the Thunder scored 13 straight over the next 6 1/2 minutes. Derek Fisher started the decisive rally with a 3-pointer. A layup by Serge Ibaka, dunk by Durant, three free throws by Caron Butler, a driving bank shot by Westbrook and a free throw by the guard just over a minute later made it 89-75 with 3:45 remaining. Noah hit a free throw for Chicago 15 seconds later, and after Ibaka nailed a 3, Gibson dunked to end a 7-minute, 4-second drought between baskets for the Bulls. "We took their hit, and thats what the games all about," Durant said. "Theres going to be a time when youve got things clicking. Youre up nine, wed have pushed it up to 12, 15, but we didnt find a way. But everybody stayed poised." Notes: Westbrook insisted Chicagos Derrick Rose can make a strong return from his latest season-ending knee surgery. The two have trained together in the off-season. "I talked to him numerous times," Westbrook said. "Hes a tough guy as you guys know. He does a great job of coming out, competing. Its unfortunate that he had to be hurt and hell be out another year, but hes goi Lew Reeve Jersey Store . -- James Harden scored 31 points, including 25 in the second half, and the Houston Rockets dug out of a double-digit, first-half hole to beat the Orlando Magic 101-89 on Wednesday night. Morgan Tiller Jersey Store .com) - The San Antonio Spurs will try to even their series with the Dallas Mavericks Monday night when the two teams collide at American Airlines Arena for Game 4.GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Six straight losses sent the Minnesota Wild into a downward spiral, the weight of the previous game carrying over into the next. Once the Wild learned how to put games behind them, good or bad, the wins started piling up. Justin Fontaine scored three goals, Niklas Backstrom stopped 39 shots and the Wild won their fourth straight game by beating the Phoenix Coyotes 4-1 on Thursday night. "When we were losing games, we were carrying that baggage into the next game with us," Wild coach Mike Yeo said. "Success can do some damage to you, too, like winning can. Weve been able to put that behind us and go on to the next one and recognize what we have to do." The Wild had been in a rut, plagued by shaky goaltending, injuries to key players and a big hit to their confidence. Once one of the top teams in the Western Conference, Minnesota plummeted down the standings with four straight road losses that led to two more at home to close out 2013. Once the calendar flipped, the Wild found their way again, starting with a 4-1 win over Buffalo. Minnesota followed a home win over Washington with a shootout road victory over the Kings and backed that up with another superb game against the Coyotes. Fontaine scored late in the first period, gave the Wild a two-goal lead on a power play after a strange bounce in the third and closed out his first career hat trick with an empty-net goal. Kyle Brodziak had a goal and an assist, Matt Cook had two assists and Backstrom was superb, winning his third straight start after allowing 17 goals the previous four. The win moved the Wild ahead of the Coyotes for the eighth spot in the Western Conference with 53 points. "We have a lot of young guys following the leadership and were playing the kind of game we need to play," Fontaine said. The Coyotes had their chances. They doubled Minnesotas shot total in the first period and had numerous good scoring chances, including one shot by Lauri Korpikoski that hit the crossbar. Mikkel Boedker was the only Phoenix player to score, doing it on a power play early in the second period, leaving the Coyotes a bit disheartened after their third loss in four games. "We had opportunities to score and didnt score," Coyotes captain Shane Doan said. ";Give them credit that they found ways to score when they got theirs and we didnt. Cedric Killings Jersey Store. In a game like that, you have to put as much onus on the guys trying to score as the guys who are trying to stop them." Phoenix came out firing, outshooting Minnesota 15-7 in the first period. The Wild scored first, though, thanks to a turnover by Phoenix defenceman Keith Yandle. Trying to clear the puck under pressure in front of the crease, Yandle sent it right to the slot, where Fontaine gathered it and beat Mike Smith to the glove side late in the first period. The Coyotes kept up the pressure early in the second period and tied it on a power play when Boedker spun around and slipped a backhander under Backstrom just before he fell to the ice. Phoenix continued to generate nearly twice as many shots, but Minnesota scored the next goal early in the third period. This one came on a defensive miscue as well: Yandle was caught pinching in Minnesotas zone, Brodziak ended up with a partial breakaway and sent a wrister that went off Smith into the goal. Fontaine put Minnesota up 3-1 a few minutes later when he fought off Antoine Vermette and flicked in a one-handed shot as he was going down. Smith had circled behind the goal to play Jason Pominvilles dump-in and had no chance of getting back when the puck caromed off the boards to the front of the goal. Phoenix tried to pick up the pressure, but couldnt get anything past Backstrom and Fontaine closed it out with his empty-netter. "We had a couple little spurts here and there, but to score youve got to go hard to the net, especially when theyre playing real tight," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. "Their goaltender gives them a (good) game, they play tight and we couldnt do enough to get inside to get opportunities and score on our opportunities." Notes: Phoenix D Oliver Ekman-Larsson returned after missing two games with an upper-body injury. ... Wild LW Zach Parise missed his eighth straight game with a lower-body injury and Mikko Koivu missed his second straight with a broken ankle. They have a combined 23 goals and 39 assists. ... Thursday was the 10-year anniversary of Coyotes G Brian Boucher setting the modern-day NHL record with his fifth consecutive shutout -- against Minnesota. ' ' '
DENVER -- Al Jefferson is pulling away in a big way from a slow, painful start to his season. Dorian ODaniel Super Bowl Jersey . Jefferson matched a season high with 35 points, including a key basket in the final seconds, and the Charlotte Bobcats hung on to beat the Denver Nuggets 101-98 on Wednesday night. It was the 10th consecutive game in which Jefferson has scored at least 20 points, an offensive flurry reflecting his improved health since missing nine of the Bobcats first 12 games this season because of a sprained right ankle. "It is all about staying healthy," Jefferson said. "I am 85 or 90 per cent right now. If I were 100 per cent, I could be very effective. I am working hard to get to 100 per cent." Jefferson looked awfully close to that in a game in which he also had 11 rebounds for his 14th double-double in his last 22 games. "He is scoring and then we are also scoring off him. His effect on his teammates is good," Bobcats coach Steve Clifford said. Gerald Henderson and Ramon Sessions each added 16 points for the Bobcats who beat the Nuggets in Denver for only the second time in eight games here. Randy Foye scored a season-high 33 points to lead Denver, which was without leading scorer Ty Lawson (left shoulder). His replacement, Nate Robinson, was knocked out of the game in the first quarter with a left knee sprain, forcing Foye into the unfamiliar role of running the point. "Nate and Ty, they push the ball and do so many different things," Foye said. "I just tried to mimic some of the things that Ty does, just being aggressive, taking it to the basket and trying to make plays for everybody, picking my spots where I needed to score. "But we fouled a lot. We gave them the game. We got stops. They got offensive rebounds and we fouled them. We made some bonehead plays fouling them and just putting them on the free throw line. But well figure this out. Theres no quit in this team." Robinson was hurt in a spill underneath the Nuggets basket. He got up gingerly and continued playing but was forced to leave the game a short time later. He did not return and the Nuggets said Robinson was scheduled to undergo an MRI scan on Thursday to further evaluate the injury, which the team initially described as a sprain. Evan Fournier added 19 points for the Nuggets and Timofey Mozgov had 15. Up by one at the break, the Bobcats pulled into a 75-all tie heading into the fourth period on a pair of free throws by Sessions, helping to offset a 3-pointer by Fournier moments earlier. Jeffersons 6-foot jumper evened the score again, at 82-all, but Fournier connected on a jumper and, after a turnover by the Bobcats, Foye drained a 3-pointer to give the Nuggets a five-point edge with 6:38 remaining. Foyes long jumper produced a final tie at 95-95 with 1:08 left. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist made one of two free throws and, after Wilson Chandler missed a contested reverse layup, Jefferson sank a jumper for a 98-95 lead with 23.1 seconds remaining. Darrell Arthur made a 3-pointer with 10.7 seconds left to pull the Nuggets within 99-98, but after Henderson was fouled and made one of two free throws with 9 seconds remaining, the Bobcats defence turned away shots from up close by Fournier and Mozgov to help the Bobcats hang on. "It was a weird play at the end," Jefferson said. "The rebound (off Fourniers miss) got deflected in some kind of way. Mozgov got the ball and had a clean shot at a layup, but MKG (Kidd-Gilchrist) made a heck of a job to block it." Added Henderson: "Those are plays that win games." Leading by as many as 14 points early on, the Bobcats settled for a 53-52 halftime lead as the Nuggets outscored Charlotte 31-21 in the second quarter. Jefferson converted a three-point play to give Charlotte a 43-31 advantage with 5:47 remaining in the second, but Denver closed the period on a 21-10 run capped by Arthurs 20-jumper an instant before the first-half buzzer. NOTES: The Bobcats Ben Gordon missed the game because of illness. ... The Nuggets and Bobcats meet one more time this season on March 10 in Charlotte. ... Kemba Walker missed his fifth game for the Bobcats since spraining his left ankle Jan. 18 against Miami. The Bobcats are 3-2 in that span. ... Watching them over the past year - and in some cases, two years - has given us a starting point for this seasons Craigs List.TORONTO - As was the case in the Grey Cup last year, the Saskatchewan Roughriders had their way with Hamilton in the season opener last weekend, and now the team is tasked with taking on the Toronto Argonauts this Saturday afternoon at Rogers Centre. You can catch the action live on TSN at 3pm et/Noon pt. You can also listen to the game on NewsTalk 1010. Last November the Roughriders barely got their hands dirty as they mangled Hamilton in the title game, 45-23, and on Sunday night the reigning champs experienced similar success in the rematch as they cruised to a 31-10 home win. There were many aspects of the game in which Saskatchewan excelled, but the most notable area was with its pressure on quarterback Zach Collaros. Under heavy rain, Collaros had limited time to gain his footing and find open receivers, but to be sacked 10 times is still incredible. Leading the way for the Riders was defensive end Ricky Foley, who made a total of six tackles, three of those on Collaros in the backfield. Last season, Saskatchewan ranked third in the league in sacks with 57, so they are already off to a tremendous start in that department. It should also be noted that Hamilton was the weakest club in the league in terms of holding off would-be sackers, allowing 65 takedowns of signal-callers. For his efforts, Foley was named the Defensive and Canadian Player of the Week for Week 1. Because of the constant hitting under less than ideal conditions, the Tiger-Cats fumbled four times and lost possession twice. On the offensive side of the ball for the Riders, quarterback Darian Durant orchestrated a decent effort, converting 15-of-22 passes for 136 yards and a couple of touchdowns, but the real story was new running back Anthony Allen. Saskatchewan figured to have a huge hole to fill in the backfield with the departure of Kory Sheets, the leagues second-leading rusher a year ago (1,598 yards), as he made the move back to the NFL to join the Oakland Raiders, but Allen seems to have turned more than a few heads with his hard-nosed play coming out of the gate. Allen carried the ball 27 times for a game-high 158 yards, dwarfing the efforts of the entire Tiger-Cats rushing attack which managed to produce a mere 42 net yards. Allen, who crossed the goal line on a one-yard run in the second quarter, also caught a two-yard pass for a major earlier in the meeting. Harrison Butker Super Bowl Jersey. While the Roughriders were again whipping up on Hamilton, the Argonauts were the ones taking a beating at the hands of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the season opener last Thursday night, 45-21. On paper, Toronto should have easily handled the hosts, but thats why they actually play the game. Ricky Ray, the quarterback with the top efficiency rating in the league a year ago, threw touchdown passes to Jason Barnes and Jeremiah Johnson in the second and third quarters, respectively, but that was only after the hosts lit up the scoreboard with 24 unanswered points to begin the meeting. Ray completed 27-of-38 passes for 283 yards, with Chad Owens being his favorite target with eight catches for 78 yards. Owens also pitched in with three punt returns for another 85 yards, one of those stretching for 83 yards and a major in the fourth quarter. Owens, who is always a threat to break a big play, was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for the seventh time in his career. Even though the Argos came out on the losing end in the first game of the season, the teams management is keenly aware of the value that Owens brings to the field each and every week, which is why the mighty sprite was signed to a contract extension through the 2015 campaign. Not limited to keeping only the skill players happy, Toronto also extended center Jeff Keeping it was announced on Monday. While he certainly doesnt get the same amount of press as Owens, Keeping has still made a name for himself after he was not only named an East Division All-Star, but won the Leo Dandurand Memorial Trophy as the East Divisions Outstanding Offensive Lineman following the 2013 campaign. Unfortunately, the Toronto defense had no answers for the Blue Bombers, a team that last season won a total of just three times. Bombers quarterback Drew Willy threw for a career-high 308 yards and four touchdowns while being named the CFL Offensive Player of the Week. Winnipeg generated 459 yards of offense, and kept the Toronto defense on the field for more than 36 minutes. Toronto trails in the all-time series between these two clubs, 46-37-1, when speaking of regular-season meetings dating back to 1961. However, the Argos have won two of the last three meetings, including a 31-29 final in Regina last September. ' ' '
Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at [email protected] China Jerseys .ca. Hey Kerry, I need you to explain this to me. How can you call opposite, offsetting penalties at the same time? By this I mean calling a diving penalty right alongside and tripping penalty? In Saturdays Canucks-Flames game, there was an offsetting penalty called against Kevin Bieska and Markus Granlund. Bieksa was called for hooking while Granlund was called for holding the stick. My question is how you can call these penalties? How can a player be called for tripping if the other player was diving?? How can Kevin be called for hooking when the Calgary player clearly had a hold of his stick? For me this does not make sense. If I dive, then you clearly did not trip me. If I tripped you, then clearly you did not dive. Please help clarify this so I do not have to yell louder at the TV while watching games. Thanks, Justin Clark, Vancouver Justin: First, let me explain how offsetting penalties can in fact be called on a play, after which I will provide my take on why that should not have been the case once Markus Granlund grabbed and pulled Kevin Bieksas stick under and through his own arms. Justin, you cited diving as a secondary penalty which often leaves fans confused and scratching their heads. Diving/embellishment is a current hot-button-issue that has been allowed to flourish in recent years. Embellishment thrived in epidemic proportions during the playoffs last season and drew comparisons to poor theatrical performances demonstrated in soccer. Until this current season, the referees have not been given the full support of management that they required to eradicate diving from the game. Had the refs received the necessary support, I am confident embellishment would have been greatly diminished similar to the successful measures taken to deal with obstruction a few years ago. Any previous lack of support however, appears to have changed through a strong mandate given to the officials at their training camp in September and continued to this point of the season. Players are being held accountable for unnatural falls to various forms of restraint (illegal or otherwise). While it is not often that we see a stand-alone diving penalty, they have been assessed with more frequency this season than in the past. Repeat diving offenders are not only being fined but are subjected to public embarrassment and additional scrutiny by the officiating community by having their names published. Let me explain how a referee can call a tripping infraction and a diving penalty on the same play. Once the referee raises his arm to signal any infraction that he determines has been committed, the resulting actions of the player fouled are also under close scrutiny. Nothing used to annoy me more than when I responded immediately to a legitimate infraction only to have the player that had been fouled attempt to sell it through embellishment/diving. Players that embellish must be held accountable for their dishonesty along with the ultimate embarrassment they heap upon the game. The referees are charged to use their authority and discretion wisely when determining if a player resorts to embellishment. I support them in their efforts. While I fully support the referees cause to eliminate diving and readily admit that offsetting penalties are sometimes deserved, I do not believe that Kevin Bieksa committed a hooking violation on this play. Bieksa cut across from his right side defence position, just inside the Canuck blue line, to accidentally deflect a loose puck onto the stick of Granlund who was attacking the Canuck zone from his right side. Bieksa responded by bringing his stick down and across the thigh pad of Granlund in an effort to apply a legal stick-check. The stick of Bieska did not hook or impede the hands or body of the Flames attacker at this point but instead bounced off Granlunds thigh pad. Bieksas stick was then firmly grabbed and controlled by the left hand of Granlund. Referees are instructed to apply a catch and release standard whenever a player uses his hand to relocate a stick that is placed in a vulnerable or unsafe location about his body. The legal catch and release (closing hand on the stick for safety measures) is distinctly different from fending off an active stick check with an open palm or forearm designed to protect the puck. Both maneuvers are deemed legal so long as the closed hand on the stick is executed quickly and only designed to move an opponents out of harms way. If the stick is held for any extended time to gain an advantage then a minor penalty should be assessed to the attacking player for holding the stick. (Rule 54.2) On this play the referee did not react to Bieksas initial stick-check action, nor did he respond by raising his arm when Granlund firmly grasped the stick in his hand and continued attacking toward the net. Bieksa had no choice but to raise his right arm in surrender and ultimately give up on the play, aside from continuing to move his feet, once his stick was effectively taken from him. Granlund could have avoided a penalty if he had released and pushed the stick away from his body in this moment. Instead, Granlund used his hand to further relocate Bieksas stick under his left arm and across his body. At this point of the play the referee had still not yet raised his arm to signal an infraction for either hooking (Bieksa) or holding of the stick (Granlund). It wasnt until Granlund attempted to make a play near the net and lost the puck that the referee raised his arm and assessed offsetting minor penalties. The only infraction committed on this play was by Markus Granlund. Since Granlund had possession and control of the puck at the time he grabbed, relocated, and clamped down on Bieksas stick the whistle should have been blown to impose a holding the stick penalty prior to any subsequent attempt by the Calgary attacker to make a play with the puck. There are situations when offsetting penalties are most appropriate Justin, this just wasnt one of them. China Jerseys Cheap . -- Thirty years ago, the Detroit Pistons beat the Denver Nuggets 186-184 in triple overtime, a game that remains the highest scoring in NBA history. China Jerseys 2022 . -- Brendan Leipsic had two goals and an assist and Nicolas Petan extended his point streak to 11 games as the Portland Winterhawks slipped past the Red Deer Rebels 5-4 on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.TORONTO -- Jay Triano has set a gruelling summer schedule that will see Canadas mens basketball team play six games in six nights -- in three different countries. It wont be easy. But then again, thats the point. "We want it to be challenging. Youve got to go through these tough times in order to build your team," said Triano, Canadas head coach. The Canadian men failed to qualify for this summers basketball World Cup, and Triano said it was obvious at the qualifying tournament that what his young squad needed was international experience. So Canada Basketball set up this summers European tour that will see the team play 11 games between July 24 and Aug. 12. Among their opponents: five of the worlds top-15 ranked teams. "Were playing Slovenia in Slovenia, Croatia in Croatia, Spain in Spain. . . were going to be in some crazy basketball environments. And its what we need, we need to get these players playing the international game and understanding it a little bit more, when the conditions arent perfect," Triano said. "That was the goal. "We could have a training camp and bring guys in. But these guys train all year round with their respective NBA teams, we wanted to make sure we got more experience playing the games." Among their opponents, the 25th-ranked Canadians will play No. 2 Spain, seventh-ranked Turkey, Serbia (11), Slovenia (13) and Angola (15). Eight of the 11 teams will be using the games as part of their preparation for the World Cup. "The other three -- Italy, Bosnia and Georgia -- are kind like us, theyre playing games to get better and not have an off summer," said Triano, whos also an assistant with the Portland Trail Blazers. The Canadian players will gather in Toronto for a three-day camp, July 20-22 at the Air Canada Centre. With several of Canadas top young players such as Andrew Wiggins and Tyler Ennis gearing up for the June 26 NBA draft, Triano isnt sure who hell have this summer. Wiggins, Ennis, Nik Stauskas, along with several other Canadians hoping to hear their name called in the draft, are currently travelling around the NBA, working out for teams. Theyll head from the draft to play in the NBA summer league. "Its going to be a lot of NBA players on our team. But there are probably four or five guys who are in the draft that we have to wait until they get drafted and then confer with theeir team and then decide in conjunction with their team and their agents and them whats best for them," Triano said. China Jerseys 2021. "Obviously we would love them all to play this summer but we also have to build a relationship with them moving forward and its going to be a busy summer for the guys who are in the draft." Hed like to take a page out USA Basketballs book and have players commit to more than one year. "We cant just all of a sudden, first time they play for our national team, is next summer at the Pan American Games, and then weve got to try to qualify for the Olympics," Triano said. "Were trying to build a basketball program, but we still have to be respectful to the fact that these guys are trying to get their careers on track and trying to do the right thing with the NBA." Triano said hell field his strongest team at next summers Pan Am Games in Toronto. Its perfect preparation for the FIBA Americas qualifying tournament for the Rio Olympics. Plus, its in Toronto, "so thats exciting," he said. With the likes of young stars like Wiggins, coupled with talented NBA players such as Tristan Thompson, Canadian mens basketball could be on the cusp of enjoying unparalleled success. "I would say the only negative is that were just so young. Even our NBA players are very very young players," Triano said -- Thompson (Cleveland Cavaliers) is only 23, while Andrew Nicholson (Orlando Magic) is 24. "This summer is a great summer for them, they can play lots of games, and we play in crazy environments like the international game sometimes presents," Triano said. "And well see what we get from that experience and then next summer weve got the Pan Ams here in Toronto and then the Olympic qualifying tournament later in the summer." Canada went 3-4 to finish sixth at last summers FIBA Americas qualifying tournament for the World Cup. One of their victories came against eventual winner Mexico. Triano pointed out his young team was up against the likes of Luis Scola (Argentina/Indiana Pacers), who at 34 years old is well-versed in the international game, and 32-year-old Jack Martinez of the Dominican Republic. "Its just the savvy play," he said. "And thats why when we finished we said we had to find a way next summer to play more international games." ' ' '

Mladenovics quick hands at the net made the difference while Bencics inexperience in doubles showed. "We took a lot of pleasure," Mladenovic told Sport Plus television. "Its extremely difficult to play in such conditions, but our doubles team showed a lot of quality. We complemented each other very well. We had a great time on the court." Cornet and Mladenovic celebrated their victory with a chest bump while a disappointed Bencic shed tears on her chair. In a first set with five service breaks, the Swiss pair took a 4-1 lead. But Bencic then failed to serve out the set at 5-3 before Bacsinszky sent a forehand wide to drop serve at 5-5. Cornet hit a backhand winner to help France go a set up. The hosts broke Bencic in the fifth game of the second set but Mladenovic committed three double-faults to drop serve in the next game. Mladenovic made amends by earning the decisive break at 3-3 with a forehand volley and the French pair won the match when Bacsinszkys backhand sailed long. On April 19-20, France and Switzerland will compete in playoffs. France will try to gain promotion to the World Group while Switzerland will aim to stay in World Group II. Earlier, Cornet beat Bacsinszky 6-2, 7-6 (4) to give France a 2-1 lead before teenager Bencic eased past Virginie Razzano 6-1, 6-1 to bring Switzerland level with France at 2-2. Cornet won six straight games to rally from a 2-0 deficit and take the first set. The 25th-ranked Frenchwoman broke back twice in the second set before Bacsinszky saved a match point at 5-4. In the tiebreaker, Cornet jumped to a 5-2 lead and clinched victory when Bacsinszkys backhand sailed wide. "Amelie kept her trust in me today and Im glad I did not prove her wrong," Cornet said in reference to France captain Amelie Mauresmo. Bencic showed great composure to break Razzano five times in a one-sided rubber. "I just played with no pressure," Bencic told Sport Plus television. "I just enjoyed the match. I was so relaxed." Bencic took a 4-0 lead and won the first set when Razzano netted a volley. The 16-year-old Swiss capitalized on two forehand errors from Razzano to also break serve at 2-1 and 4-1 in the final set. Bencic converted her third match point when the 30-year-old Razzano sent a backhand into the net. "I couldnt do anything against her today," Razzano told Sport Plus television. "I think shes an unbelievable player. She plays some dream tennis. Her future is promising." In Saturdays singles, Razzano dismissed Stefanie Voegele 6-2, 6-1 to put France ahead before Bencic upset Cornet 7-5, 6-4 to even the tie. Cheap Avalanche Jerseys . In the last race before the Sochi Olympics, Bjoergen followed up her win in the 10-kilometre classical race on Saturday by beating World Cup sprint leader Denise Herrmann of Germany by 0.43 seconds for her fifth victory of the season. Stitched Avalanche Jerseys .com) - Cincinnati Reds pitcher Mat Latos had an arthroscopic procedure performed on his right elbow last week, the teams official site reported Wednesday.PITTSBURGH -- Heath Millers surgically repaired right knee is good to go. Jonathan Dwyers slimmed down body, not so much. The Pittsburgh Steelers activated Miller, their two-time Pro Bowl tight end, off the physically unable to perform list on Saturday, clearing the way for Miller to play in the season opener against Tennessee on Sept. 8. Miller tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee last December against Cincinnati. He hinted last week he was close to a return, a major boost for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger as the Steelers try to bounce back from an 8-8 season. The 30-year-old Miller caught a team-high 71 passes for 819 yards and eight touchdowns in 2012. His presence takes some of the pressure off second-year tight end David Paulson, who has emerged as a legitimate receiving threat during the preseason but remains a work in progress when called on to block. Dwyer led the Steelers with 623 yards rushing a year ago and entered training camp in a three-way battle with Isaac Redman and LeVeon Bell for the starting job. The former Georgia Tech star slimmed down in the off-season, dropping 25 pounds off his 6-foot frame hoping the lighter weight would make him quicker and more durable. That durability appeared to give Dwyer the inside track for the top spot on the depth chart when Bell went down with a sprained right foot and Redman was slowed by a stinger. Dwyer ran for a team-high 136 yards in the preseason, but that didnt stop the Steelers from acquiring first-round pick Felix Jones from Philadelphia as insurance. Jones played well enough over Pittsburghs final two preseason games to make Dwyer expendable. Jones and LaRod Stephens-Howling, who missed time duriing camp with a minor knee injury, are the two healthiest members of the backfield heading into the opener. Avalanche Jerseys China. . While Bells foot problem isnt considered too serious, coach Mike Tomlin has given no timetable for the second-round picks return and Redman hasnt played since the preseason opener. Other notable Steelers cuts include three-time Pro Bowl punter Brian Moorman. The 37-year-old engaged in a lengthy battle with incumbent Drew Butler for the punting and holding duties, but couldnt do enough to convince special teams co-ordinator Danny Smith to give him the job. Pittsburgh also released nose tackle Alameda Taamu. The fourth-round pick in the 2012 draft endured a troubled time with the Steelers. He was arrested last October following a chaotic chase in Pittsburghs South Side. Taamu was driving the wrong way down a one-way street when police attempted to stop him. Instead he ran, crashing into four cars, injuring a woman in a parked SUV and attempting to flee on foot before being taken into custody. He eventually pleaded guilty to charges of reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and driving under the influence and will be on probation until October 2014. Thanks to an assist from defensive end Cameron Heyward, Taamu shed 30 pounds over the spring and finally appeared to be in shape, but couldnt make inroads behind starter Steve McLendon and backup Al Woods. Two picks in this years draft, cornerback Terry Hawthorne (fifth round) and wide receiver Justin Brown (sixth round), also failed to make the 53-man roster. Linebackers Marshal McFadden, Alan Baxter, Terrence Garvin and Brian Rolle were edged out following a camp-long battle for depth at the deepest position on the team. ' ' '
ANAHEIM, Calif. Stitched China Jerseys . -- Yunel Escobar homered off Jered Weaver, and James Loney and Evan Longoria had RBI singles to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to a 3-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night. Chris Archer (3-2) allowed two hits over 5 2-3 innings and won for the first time in his last five starts, striking out five and walking five. The right-hander came in with a 6.97 ERA since his 16-1 victory over the Yankees on April 19 at St. Petersburg. Jake McGee, who has stranded all 13 baserunners hes inherited, started the seventh inning fresh after Juan Carlos Oviedo got the last out in the sixth. McGee gave up a single by Erick Aybar and a walk to Mike Trout, his third of the game. But Albert Pujols, who stranded six runners on the night, flied out to right field. Joel Peralta pitched a scoreless eighth and Grant Balfour pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save. Weaver (4-3) allowed two runs and three hits over seven innings with five strikeouts and three walks. The Angels ace was 4-0 with a 1.71 ERA in his previous five starts, including a 9-3 decision last Sunday in which he asked to be taken out of a game for the first time in his nine-year career because of a problem with his command -- after throwing 102 pitches in 6 1-3 innings and getting staked to a 7-1 lead. Archer matched zeroes with the three-time All-Star through the first four innings, and each team had one hit -- the Angels a two-out single by Pujols in the first, and the Rays a one-out single by Escobar in the third. Efren Navarros two-out single in the sixth was the only other hit Archer allowed. Escobar, who came in with four hits in eight career at-bats against Weaver, opened the scoring in the fifth when he drove an 0-2 pitch to left-centre for his third homer of the season. It was only the third allowed by Weaver in seven starts since April 6 at Houston when the Astros went deep four times against him in 7-4 win. Loney added a run-scoring single over the head of right fielder Collin Cowgill in the seventh for his team-leading 25th RBI, after Longoria drew a leadoff walk and got his first stolen base of the season -- matching his total in 160 games last year. The Rays tacked on another run in the eighth with two walks and Longorias RBI single against Michael Kohn, who had held opponents to just one unearned run in 17 1-3 innings over his previous 17 appearances. Archer retired his first two batters in the fifth before walking John McDonald, Erick Aybar and Trout -- whose walkoff three-run homer against Brad Boxberger in the ninth inning Thursday gave the Angels a 6-5 win. But Pujols grounded to third for a force on Aybar, making the two-time NL MVP 0 for 6 this season in bases-loaded situations and 3 for 22 since signing a 10-year, $240 million contract with the club in December 2011. NOTES: Weaver intentionally walked Escobar in the seventh, the right-handers first intentional pass since Sept. 4, 2009, at Kansas City (Mark Teahen). ... Angels OF Kole Calhoun (sprained right ankle) began a rehab assignment Friday night with Triple-A Salt Lake, and 3B David Freese is scheduled to join him Saturday. New York City FC introduced Frank Lampard in Brooklyn on Thursday after signing the 36-year-old former Chelsea midfielder to a two-year contract.(SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Rangers hope to avoid a third straight loss on Monday night when they play host to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third matchup this season between the Metropolitan Division rivals. The Rangers have lost 11 of their last 15 meetings with the Penguins, splitting a pair of encounters this season. Henrik Lundqvist posted a 33-save shutout in a 5-0 home victory over Pittsburgh on Nov. 11, but the Penguins answered back with their own home win over the Rangers four days later. That came via a 3-2 shootout decision. Lundqvist, who is expected to start tonight, has allowed only two goals on 71 shots versus the Penguins this season. Backup Cam Talbot got the start in net for New York on Saturday versus Detroit after posting shutout wins in his previous two starts. He was looking solid again versus the Red Wings, but ended up allowing three goals on 34 shots in a 3-2 loss. With the Rangers up 2-0 thanks to goals from Kevin Klein and Rick Nash, Talbot yielded a pair of tallies 61 seconds apart late in the second period, then was beaten for the winner 7:40 into the third period. We were playing a pretty solid game. They got a couple odd-man rushes at the end of the (second) period that cost us, said Rangers defenseman Marc Staal. New York will try to avoid posting a season high-tying third straight loss for the third time tthis season and Nash could lead the charge tonight. Nike China Jerseys. The forward has 17 goals, tied for second in the NHL, and has posted five tallies and three assists over a seven-game point streak. Pittsburgh has won five of its last seven and bounced back from a 3-0 loss versus Vancouver with a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. An unmarked Christian Ehrhoff scored with 1:50 left in regulation, getting a cross-ice pass from Sidney Crosby before blasting a shot into the upper right corner of the net. Usually when you have that much time you think too much, said Ehrhoff. But I just knew where I wanted to put it and this time, it went right where I wanted it. Evgeni Malkin and Brandon Sutter also scored for the Penguins, who won two of three on their homestand. It was important to have a (good) rebound game, said Penguins coach Mike Johnston. Following that game (versus Vancouver), I think everybody was anxious to (go). And we didnt feel that the Vancouver game was a good game for us as a team. Craig Adams appeared in his 314th straight game for the Penguins, breaking the franchise record held by Ron Schock. He had an assist in the win. Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves, including two in the closing moments, in the victory for the Pens. He has allowed seven goals on 66 shots in the two games versus the Rangers this season. ' ' '
